C276 Filler Metals

Our customer has requested ERNiCrMo-10 instead of the recommended ERNiCrMo-4 for the C276 joints.  The service duty of this equipment is basically a door frame for a corrosive environment.  Is the -4 not more resistant than the -10 because of a higher Ni content?

No. The critical alloy additions are Cr and Mo in combination. You can use the web site below for comparison between the two filler metals - C 276 and C22. The selection of the filler metal may be for dissimilar metal weld joints. The higher Mo content does provide for increased pitting resistance.

Thanks!

RE: C276 Filler Metals

metengr is correct.  I have used -10 to weld to carbon steel (dissimillar metals).  I would ask the client to confirm that this is their choice to ensure that you are covered.

RE: C276 Filler Metals

22 is often used as filler for 276, it is more corrosion resistant in almost all environments.
In addition to higher Mo it has less Fe, which does help these alloys.
