PCB contamination of PILC cable

PCB contamination of PILC cable

PCB contamination of PILC cable

(OP)
A customer has been contracted to perform a splice of EPR to PILC cable in a vault. Apparently one of the PILC conductors has been leaking over the years, the question has come up, "Is the oil in PILC cable PCB contaminated? IF so what special handeling instructions do I need to conform to?"
We are going to use a wipe to get a sample of the oil to send of to a testing lab.
In the mean time does anyone have any experience with 50 plus year old PILC cable and the resence of PCB inthe oil?

RE: PCB contamination of PILC cable

I would assume it contains PCB oil until proven otherwise. If at all possible, the original manufacturer should be contacted.
