Screw shear capacity

I am unable to find information for allowable shear for panel diaphragm to attach plywood with douglas fir-larch with screw instead of nails? IBC has table for nails only.

RE: Screw shear capacity

I think screws are frowned upon for this application because they behave in a brittle manner.

RE: Screw shear capacity

Not true. I actually specify screws all the time for plywood floors to avoid the "squeaking" issue. Whether the contractor put them in or not, now that is an entirely different story.

Design allowables, I think are pretty much proprietary to the brand. Check out Grabber screws in the ICC website for the evaluation report.

RE: Screw shear capacity

I myself have recovered a number of interesting docs about this by making the search in google for the words:

screw plywood capacity tables

Just an example

Try also looking some wood construction manuals, screws are certainly treated therein.
