material recognition

(OP)
Hi;
We have a problem about material recognition in piping job. some of our pipes don't have color code and we know no way for confirmation of materials used in them, especially for nace materials. How can you realize that the material is correct?

RE: material recognition

Major mistake not keeping track of materials, marking and their paperwork.  Call laboratory.  Pay 10 x price now for saving all that money by not doing that certification and paperwork before.

Only put off until tomorrow what you are willing to die having left undone. - Pablo Picasso

RE: material recognition

Since it will take both Chemical and Physical testing of each delivered batch of pipe, the cost will be more like 50X the original savings.  Never count on color coding unless your folks apply it to each piece during the receipt of the material.

Wouldn't it have been much simplier if the Heat # had been stenciled on each piece of [pipe?

RE: material recognition

Anticipating the next problem: Identify weld consumables and set up a system to get the correct filler to each weld.

RE: material recognition

Amen blacksmith....

If they are having trouble identifying pipe, then the identification and inspection of welding rod will be a nightmare.
