i-Phase Loads on 3-Phase Panel
i-Phase Loads on 3-Phase Panel
(OP)
I have a panel with main breaker 100A 3-Phase 3-Pole 208V. Can I put three single phase loads each of 8kW 208V on this panel?
The three phase power is: 1.732 * 100 * 208 = 36kW
And the three single phase loads are: 3 * 8kW = 24kW
So in theory I can put all the three loads on the panel because 24kW < 36kW.
But the problem is that each 1-Phase 8kW load is: 8kW/208V = 38.5A
So 3 * 38.5A = 115.5A, which exceeds the main breaker of 100A.
Comments will be appreciated.
