Power Factor - Commercial RTUs
Power Factor - Commercial RTUs
(OP)
Gang,
I was hoping someone could give me a reasonable estimate for a PF to use with commercial RTUs (ranging from 5-40 tons.)
460V/3ph
I feel as though I've read somewhere that 0.85 is a legitimate PF to use when running equations. Is this conservative? Is this liberal? Is it fair?
Thanks all

RE: Power Factor - Commercial RTUs
That's not a bad number (0.85) for full load. It'll vary downward significantly as the load decreases, though -- I've measured as low as 0.5 when it's cool outside and the compressor(s) aren't working very hard. Larger size motors will do better than smaller ones in general.
Good on ya,
Goober Dave
