Plastic insulating material Vo

Plastic insulating material Vo

Can anyone shed some light on the above material specification . I need to know if what V o actually  is  ? ie a material type or some to do with flame retardent class for insulating materials?

The above is used in a description for a comb bus bar assembly for single phase mcb distribution.

RE: Plastic insulating material Vo

V-0 (that's "VEE ZERO") is an Underwriters Laboratories classification for flame resistance of materials.  I have only heard it in regard to plastics.  Most plastics manufacturers have formulations of their basic resins that meet this and other UL classifications.  See:

The standard to reference is UL 94.  This deals with the flammability of materials.  V0 is a mediocre rating.

And as tcampbel stated, check it out at www.ul.com.

RE: Plastic insulating material Vo

For bus bar application, V-0, which is flame retardancy at the best as per under writers laboratory specification, is necessary. Polycarbonate sheet, with V-0 specification is the right material to make shroud for bus bars, we are already doing for some local switchgear companies.
