Does anyone have or know where I can find "Signboard Footings to Resist Wind Loads", Civil Engineering, 1966?

Thanks in advance!

RE: Signboard Footings

sven....any article in Civil Engineering magazine is copyrighted and cannot be reprinted here...I have been published in CE magazine and I have to buy my own article!

As for the subject, there have been many article written on this and there have been discussions here in Eng-Tips.  Do a search and see what you find.

Unless you have a specific forensic need, this is an old article and it would be somewhat irrelevant to today's requirements.

RE: Signboard Footings

You can support the signboard with a shallow foundation if the lateral loads are small, say, 5 kips or less. You can also support it by a deep foundation.  Look for foundation design book that covers "shallow foundation with horizontal load and moment" & "design of laterally loaded foundations".  Try this book:

Also, many Departments of Transportation in the US have procedures for foundation design of cantilevered traffic light poles, which are similar to signs.

Thanks guys!  I saw reference to the Civil Engineering atricle in the AASHTO Standard Specifications for Structural Supports for Highway Signs, Luminaires, and Traffic Signals.  Just wanted to take a look at it.
