Pipe material

(OP)
Anyone know what type of pipe material to use to transfer grease, motor oil, antifreeze, and transmission fluid within an auto repair shop?  Thanks.

RE: Pipe material

Probably standard carbon steel; however, the best thing might be to ask some auto shops.

RE: Pipe material

To start with, recognize that you'll be pumping four different fluids from 4 different sources, via four different pumps (pumping methods, suctions, cut-out valves) and four different dispensers = four different pipe networks.   Windshield wash fluid?  Transmission fluids?  Plain water?  Shop air?

How many work bays?  How (where) are you going to use each fluid?  How are you going to refill each fluid?

None of these are highly corrosive, none uniquely extremely dangerous.  Modestly low pressure (grease probably highest pressure) but your grease dispenser is easier with a air=powered grease gun, not a dedicated pipe.  Low cost simple steel pipe is adequate, as noted above.

RE: Pipe material

If any of the storage vessels is located below grade (buried), you may have to look at double containment piping, depending on your states underground storage tank requirements.

RE: Pipe material

SA-106 Grade B, Sch40 -- plain carbon steel seamless pipe.

RE: Pipe material

CAUTION: Do not use Sch 40 threaded pipe for your grease service.  It is not uncommon to use 120 lb or 400 lb grease drums with a common supply pump for large facilities.  Pressures can be high and as such, pipe schedule should be based on maximum shut-in pressure.
