Hello!
I have a request to test a 4" pipe grade A106B Sch80 (8.56mm)to 12000 psi. It will be exposed to around 50C.

B31.1 specifies that it should be tested to a max of 2075psig.

Can anybody please advise the correctness of such requirement?

Thanking you in advance

RE: Hydotesting

I found this "R" that you left out "hydRotest" in the thread title, and I think you should return this "1" out of "12000 psig" to your client.

Surely the request is 2000 psig and it is a typo.

RE: Hydotesting

Wow, 12000 psi, let me know how it turns out...

Don't think thats correct, they might have meant 1200 (or 2000 psi as suggested by 1gibson), better check with them.

RE: Hydotesting

Could be a units thing too; 12000 kPag = 1740 psig.

Regards,

SNORGY.

RE: Hydotesting

LS. For wallthickness calculation acc ASME B31.1 304.1.2 2008 edition a Weld Joint Strength Reducion Factor W is to be used. In earlier editions p.e. 2002 there was no factor like this.
1st. Is that same factor still to be used in 2010 edition?
2nd. When a part of a system built to the 2002 edition is to be replaced due corrosion, can we still use the 2002 edition as design code or must the 2010 edition to be used?

Thanks

To all that put my mind to rest, thank you, happy Christmas and a glorious new year of 2012.
