Thermal analysis problem

Thermal analysis problem

Thermal analysis problem

(OP)
Hi everyone,

I have some problems modeling a thermal analysis in Abaqus/CAE.

I want to know the final temp in a plate (0.2x0.2x0.02 m) imported from CATIA V5.

The plate is heated by inner heating rods.

I entered my loads (surface heat flux) on the surface of the holes of the plate (about 2 w/m², all dimensions in meters) : theses are the only information I have.

I dont know how to simulate the ambiant air around my part. I tried interaction ==> surface film condition, but I dont know what to put in "sink temperature" (ambiant air is 20°C, material : steel).

Even if I manage to simulate the ambiant air, do you think I have enough information (a surface heat flux from the heating rod) to do a proper simulation?

Many thanks for your attention/futures answers

RE: Thermal analysis problem

Look at natural convection from the surface of a flat plate. You'll have different values for above and below the plate. In addition add radiation to the ambient (sink) temperature.

Thanks for your reply.

I combined radiation + convection as you said.

But my results still show me the ambiant temperature on the surfaces, which is not accurate (especially with 973°K within the plate, it should be more like 500°K I guess).

Do I have to modelize the ambiant air around my plate by a solid part (to have an overview of the temperature at the surface of my plate)?

RE: Thermal analysis problem

Away from the heat source you may well have temperatures at ambient, depending on the size of the plate. You don't model the ambient air as it's not a solid (for one reason). Check the values of heat transfer coefficients, stefan bolzmann constant etc. and make sure you have the right units.
