Shoring Toe Embedment depth

Shoring Toe Embedment depth

Shoring Toe Embedment depth

(OP)
Can anyone help me with how to calculate the required toe embedment for a caisson wall type shoring system (1.0 m diameter overlapping caissons with soldier piles every 3rd caisson) with prestressed tiebacks, given:

- at rest pressure pushing the wall is 135 kPa rectangular granular pressure distribution (based on Kp x soil density x depth of excavation x 0.65).
- Kp = 3.0 minimum passive pressure (100 blows per 300 mm)
- soil unit weight = 21.7 kN/ cu.m.
- distance from lowest prestressed tie back to bottom of the general excavation = 4.0 m.
- assume water table will be lowered below bottom of toe, and every caisson gets embedded the calculated toe depth

- is 4.0 m toe embedment sufficient?
- what safety factor is required? 2.0? 1.5?
