HV Test involving temperature detector for motor

HV Test involving temperature detector for motor

Is the high voltage test and insulation resistance test applicable for a temperature probe (Pt100) which have a rating of 250V, 2 element x 3 core? The temperature detector is for measuring motor cavity water for a submersible motor.

How would you normally do these tests? At what test voltages are these tests normally conducted according to international standards? I read on some websites that only mentioned about Meggar test but not HV test at 500V.

RE: HV Test involving temperature detector for motor

I can't answer whether the test is necessary or not (the couple motor installation manuals I've run across do not mention megger testing RTD's), but Tyco Thermal provides details of a megger test for its RTD's used for heat tracing.

See page 3 of the Tyco manual is here:
http://www.tycothermal.com/assets/NorthAmerica/English/Documents/Installation_Operation_and_Maintenance_Manuals/Products/487/H57328_RTD10_20_II_0103.pdf

Be warned that RTD wire colors are not standardized, red/red/white is common but not universal.
