HEC RAS Divided Flow warning

HEC RAS Divided Flow warning

HEC RAS Divided Flow warning

(OP)
I am running a large watershed in HEC-RAS.  The Errors, Warnings, and Notes are telling me I have divided flow when I have a single open channel.  The only thing I can think of is that energy line is above the roadway which is somewhat off-set and sloping away from the channel which could potentially be considered a separate flow area.   Has anyone else had to deal with this?  The manuals have not proven helpful to solve this problem...or I haven't located the correct section.   Thanks -

RE: HEC RAS Divided Flow warning

Diana - I have run inot this for wide floodplain or braided stream conditions.  Take a look at your cross sections to see if there is divided flow.  If there is for a localized area, you may need to block out that section if there is no way for runoff to enter that section from upstream.  Look at the perspective view or topo to see if the flow can enter the divided region.  Divided flow is not bad if it really flows in that manner.

gbam - thanks for the advice, I tried blocking the area then using normal effective area and I'm still getting divided flow...any other suggestions??

You can try using levees to see if the water will stack up and overtop your roadway.
