STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

(OP)
How to import STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 Release V5.3. It is supposed to be just automatic but when I press open nothing come out. Do I have to do something with the STAAD Pro V8i file to be compatible. Thanks.

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

Hello,

I'm recently using Staad.ProV8i series 2, and i'm thinking of upgrading to series 3 and getting Staad.Foundation.

So, wow's Staad.Foundation? I mainly work with shallow foundations, is it worth it?

Thanks.

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

Here's a link to the product webpage:
http://www.bentley.com/en-US/Products/STAAD.foundation/
In a nutshell, STAAD.foundation is a post processor to design the foundations for your STAAD.pro models (or it can be used stand-alone). You'll see the biggest benefit designing raft or mat foundations supporting complex structures above or for specialized plant foundations. It's not really necessary for isolated spread footings.

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

I understand the difference between STAAD-Pro and STAAD-III.

I understand that V8i probably means version 8, with the i referring to a minor release or bug fix.

But, what does "series 2" or "series 3" refer to?  As a STAAD outsider / competitor, I'm just curious.  Is this kind of how the SAP / CSI guys have a Basic, Plus, and Advanced versions of their programs?

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

It's a long story, but the program extended title "v8i SELECT series 3" essentially tells you that is it developed to be compatible with other Bentley products from the same era (v8i) and it's available to our SELECT subscribers as an update release. It's not a reference to the enabled features or anything like that.

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

Josh, if you look at the actual version number it tells you more about the release, for instance v8i Select Series 2 is 20.07.07.19.  I think this is based on the 2007 release of STAAD pro.  At some point they changed it to 20.07.  I'm sure Seth can give you more background.

In my view it's kind of confusing.  The select series releases may or may not be major releases depending on the product and the specific release.

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

Right, Bentley Systems also has a standard of grouping release numbers into sets of 2 (or 3) numbers separated by periods, starting with the major version number and ending with the build number like the latest release of STAAD.pro - 20.07.08.20. That's the number that identifies exactly what you are using. The "v8i" and "SELECT Series" info is general terminology.

RE: STAADPro V8i into STAAD Foundation V8 (Rel 5.3)

Seth, 20.07.08.20 are four numbers separated by periods. Sorry, I couldn't resist.  Anyway, as someone who used to work at a large company and answered many of the STAAD questions internally, I can tell you despite how "cool" your marketing types think the moniker "V8i" is, most people just found it to be plain a$$ confusing.
