Hair Salon Load Calculation

Hair Salon Load Calculation

Hair Salon Load Calculation

(OP)
Does anyone have a suggestion for a salon on what I could use for latent load per station while the hair dryer is running? Im using 1159 BTU/H for sensible heat gain. Thanks Guys

RE: Hair Salon Load Calculation

Depends on if they are using SOUL GLOW or not.  I hear that stuff is pretty latent.

I figured each hair dryer is about 1700W, and they will run for about 12 minutes per hour each. 12mins/60min =.2 so 1700W x .2 hours = 340 watts x # of stations = my sensible heat load for the hair dryers. I didnt think it was reasonable to figure that all the hair dryers were running continuously all day at each station. I do think it is reasonable to figure that within one hour, each station could run their hair dryer for 12 mins. Opinion?

RE: Hair Salon Load Calculation

Your guess for sensible load sounds good to me.  I might figure evaporating a couple ounces of water during that 12-minute time period too, or maybe four?  I haven't see any recommended values anywhere.

I'd specify some de-stink-i-fyers as well, to cover myself.

Good on ya,

RE: Hair Salon Load Calculation

Your estimate sounds in line with the WAG I use - 3w/sf lights & 3w/sf misc. heat.

Good one!!!  I follow the same practice!  I specify an ion generator (Bio-Climatic is one) on the discharge side of the air handler.  Even had a client request the same be installed on the exhaust system serving the space to eliminate odors from a sidewall louver discharging to the exteriore.
