Loadoptions and partfalmily children

Loadoptions and partfalmily children

Loadoptions and partfalmily children

(OP)
I have question how load options for partfamily children are working. I prefer using from folder load option for my design on a local folder, the partfamily children are on a central share.
Using from folder doesn't work for the partfamilies. I found the UGII_INITIAL_FAMILY_INSTANCE_DIR let is point to the central share of the children. But load option from folder still doesn't work.
From the doc's it should work - what went wrong?

RE: Loadoptions and partfalmily children

From folder is just that, from A SINGLE folder.
The only way to get your partfamily children is to use search options. Specify the share location first, then your local folder or './'.

RE: Loadoptions and partfalmily children

But if you specified only the local folder in your search options, and then put a WINDOWS shortcut to another folder (the part families) , in that folder - Will NX find the parts you need?

RE: Loadoptions and partfalmily children

If the load option is 'from folder', NX will look only in the specified folder regardless if there are subfolders or shortcuts to other folders within the specified folder. If you use 'search folders' along with the "..." option it will recursively search subfolders. If the folder contains generic folder shortcuts (such as those created with the right click menu), I'm 99% sure those will be ignored. However, if the 'shortcut' was created as a hard symbolic link, it should be treated as any other folder.

Back to the original question, I'm not sure UGII_INITIAL_FAMILY_INSTANCE_DIR is going to solve this problem. It seems to apply more for the creation of the family parts rather than as a load option. I agree with Ben that an easy way to fix this is to use the 'search folders' load option. It works like the 'from folder' option but lets you add multiple locations to search in order of priority. You can also search subfolders by adding "..." after the folder name. Add your project location and the part family location and it should work.

thank you jerry and cowski
I thaught the UGII_INITIAL_FAMILY_INSTANCE_DIR would work like the UGII_PATDIR for pattern- I think most of us will agree - hope that
John will read this, and agree. Symbolic links are only a workaround but ok.

RE: Loadoptions and partfalmily children

Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting the use of links, but rather the use of the 'search directories' load option.
