So where one has a a building such as the one shown on the attachment file, re 2 storeys one side and single storey the other, as the building is buried in a hillside.  When you utilize the simple equations to calculate a fundamental lateral period T, what then do you use for the total height hn?

Check h1+h2 and h2, use worse case. How much of a problem can it be with this type of a building?

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

And from that simple section, it is easy to understand how torsional stresses can be induced into the roof and floor diaphragms through different structural periods, irrespective of any vertical dead load eccentricities.
