How do I weld two surfaces...

...in Inventor (2012) that are aligned in the same plane and facing the same direction?
see attached illus.

The welding must be applicable with a Stress Analysis simulation.

You can do a couple of things depending on your intent.

1. What joe4374 said
2. Use Cosmetic Weld
3. In Dynamic Simulation use a Welded Group (if you need to run kinematic tests)
4. In the Stress Analysis Environment you can apply a contact type to the two parts (can't recall the right one off the top of my head).
