i am taking 25psf/(2"/12")=144pcf..is that okay?

RE: what is density of bitum.concrete

I am sure there are numerous other resources for this and many DOTs have a rating manual or guide that will list various material data specific to their own agencies.

That said, AASHTO list this value closer t 140 pcf.

RE: what is density of bitum.concrete

it depends on the aggregate used and degree of compaction. call your local supplier or paving contractor if you want an accurate number. By the way, you need to re-check your math...

RE: what is density of bitum.concrete

I have often seen 25 psf used for a 2 inch thick asphalt overlay.  25 psf / 2" x 12" = 150 pcf.

AASHTO says to use 150 pcf dead load for pavement other than wood block and 140 pcf for macadam or gravel, rolled.

RE: what is density of bitum.concrete

1)  When calculating in inches asphalt weighs 12 lbs/sqft, exactly.  That way you can just multiply by 12 and not touch the calculator.

2)  When estimating quantities asphalt weighs 150 pcf, exactly.  Because you don't want to come up short, even by 4%.

False precision breeds the lie that engineering is "exact".

I agree with what the others wrote, but couldn't help adding my two-bits.

RE: what is density of bitum.concrete

Typical dense graded structural mixes will range between 135 and 145 pcf.
