Dual Voltage Generator System

Dual Voltage Generator System

Dual Voltage Generator System

(OP)
Hello,

I am very new to this forum, so please be patient with me!

I have a dual voltage 28V/14V generator, with seperate battery banks. 2/12V in series for 28V and 12V battery for 14V.

The generator uses the centre tap (12V) from the 24V battery as the refernece point to enable the 14V to charge. If i connect the 14V from the generator direct to the 12V individual battery the 14V side will not charge.

I have set the system up as per the attached file and the system does charge, however i am concerned that the 14V system will drain only one of the batteries, and therefore place a difference between the loads on the batteries, and damage them?

Can someone please advise or recommend any solutions?

Very grateful for any help.

Thanks

RE: Dual Voltage Generator System

I worked on boats that used 32 V starting systems and 32 V lighting. There is not much 32 V electronic gear available. They used 12 V electronics powered by a 12 Volt battery. The engine room lighting was connected between the 32 V battery bank to the 12 V battery. Result, always lights in the engine room and a charge for the 12 V battery.
