Modelling of a safety pad around a trunnion support on a pipe bend

Modelling of a safety pad around a trunnion support on a pipe bend

I'm looking for a way to model a safety pad on a pipe bend which curves around a trunnion support, keeping the width constant the whole way around (see the picture). I've come up with a very good approximation by rotating an oval on the corner in ansys workbench, however, I'm wondering if there is a way to get it exact. Is there some sort of integration using the pipe bend radius, the pipe diameter and the trunnion diameter which will allow me to model an exact 3D plane?

Save yourself much grief and have a look at FE-Pipe. It has a template for elbow trunnions.

In terms of manufacturing ... an elbow pad is often cut from another elbow. No fancy modelling needed.

Yeh I thought as much. I'm new to workbench, and I was more looking to see if it is even possible to fit it exactly. Is a license for FE Pipe expensive?

You need to contact Paulin Research Group for exact FE-Pipe prices ... depends where you are located.

I'm in the UK and here, compared to other FE software it is extremely good value.
