sketch blocks in 3d

sketch blocks in 3d

sketch blocks in 3d

(OP)
Traditional part. 3D modeling. ST2

Is there a way to create a sketch on a planar face (ex. a rectangle) and convert it to a "block" or save it into a block library for later use? instead of using move copy and such. I know in solid edge 2D this is made available, but is there such a thing when 3D modeling?

If not what are some ways to work around this in a quicker manner?
Thanks for any help.

RE: sketch blocks in 3d

You can create feature libraries, so you can store commonly used cutouts etc. that are based on a sketch.
However, you can't use just a sketch - it has to be the feature (which will include the sketch).
To do it create the feature you want.
Then select the feature in the feature tree and Copy.
On the feature library tab of the edge bar browse to your library folder and Paste.
To place the feature on a part just drag and drop from the library onto the desired face/plane in your part file.
If the sketch included positioning dimensions they will come in with the feature when you place it. Just drag the dimensions to appropriate edges/features of your part

There should be something in help about this.

If you just want to create and save sketches you can copy/paste them in from a draft file.
