BGE 1.5 rectifier causes brake coil to burn
BGE 1.5 rectifier causes brake coil to burn
(OP)
Greetings to all,
I have this SEW motor (440vac) with brake and a BGE 1.5 rectifier for the brake. The problem is, both the rectifier and the brake coil always burned. Can you give me some reasons why do this rectifier together with the brake coil go bad in a short time only (min. 5hrs operation). Hope you could help me. Thank you very much.

Once the firt time the coil and rectifier burn off did you rewind the coil or is new? is the coil is rewinded and is wrong rewinded the coil impedance may be altered then the brake will drawn too much current and burns the coil and rectifier. If both are new then check you have the right spare parts.
Are you feeding the coil from the motor block or from external source? Usually the brakes are feeded from the motor.(6 lead motor wye connected and the braked feeded from line and star-point.)
The problem is happening always? check your calculations about the power you need in the brake.
Other thing you can check is the mechanicall brake adjusment(tight) this could create an overload in the brake.

Carlos
