DESIGN OF UNDER GROUND WATER TANK

DESIGN OF UNDER GROUND WATER TANK

DESIGN OF UNDER GROUND WATER TANK

(OP)

  Dear All

I am design an underground water tank of 35mx15mx3m deep.Since the tank plan size is big i have introduced columns in 5m grid in both directions. I have modeled and analysed with finite elements of size 0.5mx0.5m. Designed as per IS:3370 ( Indian Code )for uncracked
section. Columns are modeled with members. All other check for stability and flotation were carried out as per standard methods. Please comment and suggest me if any mistakes in the above concept.

best regards

RE: DESIGN OF UNDER GROUND WATER TANK

Just make sure you detail out expansion and contraction joints, joints between walls and base slab. What sort of foundation do you have for the columns? If you have individual footings/ piles for the columns, you need careful detailing at the joint between columns & base slab.

Finally, because it's large in plan, you really need to check for earthquake with hydrodynamic forces.

RE: DESIGN OF UNDER GROUND WATER TANK

Seems like a lot of area for a 3 meter deep storage tank. It would be much cheaper to increase the depth by a meter or two and reduce the area.
