How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

(OP)
Hello,

I want to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS 13. I can´t find the option to choose the pressure direction. Do you know where is located that option in the menu?

Any help appreciated,
regards,
Hugo Silva

RE: How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

Pressure parallel to a surface doesn't have a lot of physical meaning.

RE: How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

apply SURF154 element to the area...then apply pressure to the Surf154

Thanks for your reply

Minjulep by pressure I mean a distributed load on an area. It´s just an ANSYS term

Postbeaverncsu
I apply element SURF154 but to the entire volume, or just the area I want. I´m using Solid elements, should I remove them?

How can I apply pressure on Surf154? It´s on the elements? nodes?
lines? Areas?

thanks
Hugo Silva

Try to use the ANSYS forum in future.

RE: How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

do you mean a distributed in-plane force ?

RE: How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

(OP)
yes, a distributed in-plane force, but not perperdicular to the plane, but parallel.
Can you help me?

regards,
Hugo Silva

RE: How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

Wouldn't that be called a shear stress?

RE: How to apply pressure parallel to an area on ANSYS

under your load options i expect (i don't know ANSYS) that you can apply a load in a direction (use a local co-ord system if its not a global direction or it'll be in the element axes).  you might have the choice between point load or distributed but either way the loads applied to the element are the same ... each node will see approx 1/4 (based on the local stiffness).

btw, the Fe and/or ANSYS forums would be more help ...

I see you found forum569: ANSYS: ANSYS Software Suite, but it doesn't look like you posted this question there -- has it been answered satisfactorily?
