How to get the plastic deformation in ANSYS WB

How to get the plastic deformation in ANSYS WB

How to get the plastic deformation in ANSYS WB

(OP)
Hello,

I'm studying the simple beam of 10x50x300 mm dimension and I want to have the plastic deformation values on the structure. WB just gives the plastic strain.

Is it possible, and how.

Thanks in advance.

In fact in WB you can get the elastic deformation (mm) and the plastic strain (mm/mm) (if there is any plastic stress), but you can't get the plastic deformation (i.e the values of deformation above the elastic deformation)

In traction test it's simple. Knowing the original length of the beam we can divide the plastic strain by this length. But in general case especially in assembly study it's impossible (for me) to get the plastic deformation

I believe as long as your material model accounts for plasticity it can be done in WB.  In Solution, create New -> User Defined.  Find the output definitions file in the documentation.   I believe you want to write = EPPL,EQV (for equiv plastic strain).  A favorite is = EPTO,EQV which accounts for elastic, plastic, and creep strains).  The notation might not be right (could be = EPPL:EQV) but all our licenses are being used and I can't check.  Just right click the solution and get results to see the contours/data.

RE: How to get the plastic deformation in ANSYS WB

Sorry, I read the question wrong.  The user defined results should be typed = EPPLEQV (no space, no colon).  To get the deformation you might be able to do this:

-Get solution of equivalent total strain set up
-Get user defined solution of = EPPLEQV set up

when study runs, you'll notice the total strain starts accumulating from t = 0, and the EPPLEQV will accumulate after it starts the plastic range.

-Get the time plastic deformation starts on your geometry of interest
-Export deformation data at this time of plastic deformation and again with total deformation at end of study.
- In excel subtract the two values to find how much deformation is due to plastic deformation.

- or - get the cloud data at each of these points, import to something like SolidWorks and measure between the imported nodes.
