Hydro Test of Tanks

Could any one please advise me the guideline as per API650 for the hydro test of above ground storage tanks.

RE: Hydro Test of Tanks

API 650 Section 7.3.6 covers hydrotesting a new tank

RE: Hydro Test of Tanks

Fill it to the overflow and see if the seams split.  Simple.

RE: Hydro Test of Tanks

Duwe6, I know you are saying that tongue in cheek... lol

Magmath76, take IFRs advice and thoroughly peruse the API 650 standard for hydrostatic testing and all the requirements BEFORE such test.

There are NDE requirements such as vacuum box testing of bottom and the taking of measurements, etc before hydrotesting.

All the guidelines are in API 650 such as water test quality (i.e., CS - where water contact exceeds 14 days, consider adding oxygen scavenger & a biocide and raise the pH by adding a caustic;  SS - See Appendix S; Aluminum - See Appendix H.

There are also specific fill and discharge rates depending on bottom course thicknesses.

Thanks Gcrobert.

Can you please give me some guide line on establishing fill and discharge rates?
