ASME IX P# issue
ASME IX P# issue
(OP)
We have inadvertantly used an AISI 1006 material for membrane attachment to waterwall tubes. We normally use 1008 or 1018 which are P#1 materials in ASME IX. Although AISI or SAE 1006 is listed as ASME 5041 in SA29 of section II A we cannot find an assignable P# in ASME IX for procedural purposes. Has anyone had this problem?

You have a nonconformance, which can be easily dispositioned without having to replace it by establishing weldability. The 1006 is very close to 1008 carbon steel in terms of chemical composition and weldability. Revise the WPS by requalification using the same material used for membrane. That is it.
