Whats more memory efficient? Section view or base view?

Whats more memory efficient? Section view or base view?

Whats more memory efficient? Section view or base view?

(OP)
Hi all.

We are always struggling with large assemblies where I work because our computers are memory limited due to 32bit operating system.  We have 8GB installed but can only use 3.5 or so.  We won't get 64bit OS until sometime next year (hopefully, it's progressing at the speed of bureaucracy).

So, my question is when doing drawing views is it more memory efficient to use section views or base views?  (I understand that usually a section line is cutting through a part/assembly, but I'm talking about section lines that don't do that and merely break out a separate view of a particular portion of the part/assembly at a specific orientation.)  A drawing I'm doing now I have the option of doing one or the other and since I'm already crashing NX6 several times a day due to "out of memory" I thought I'd ask what method is best and hopefully avoid crashing again.

Thanks in advance!

RE: Whats more memory efficient? Section view or base view?

If you are running out of memory several times a day, I doubt base view vs section view is going to help you. But without testing, I'd guess that section view takes a little more in the way of computer resources. My reasoning is that a section view typically references an existing view and usually calculates a section through the parts, even though you are not cutting through the parts, NX has to step through the section view algorithm to decide what to do; the base view just has to set up the camera to look at the model and generate the usual stuff (visible lines, hidden lines, etc).
