PDMWorks Workgroup to Enterprise conversion costs

PDMWorks Workgroup to Enterprise conversion costs

Greetings,
Were those of you who have switched from Workgroups to Enterprise charged a data conversion fee by your VAR? If "yes", what was the cost and how did the conversion and subsequent implementation of Enterprise play out?

Thanks

RE: PDMWorks Workgroup to Enterprise conversion costs

Finethread,

Being that I used to work for a VAR i can give you the insider info.  When upgrading from workgroup to enterprise we would typically sell the customer an implementation package that was a total package.  It was billed at cost per hour and it was a flat fee based on how difficult or complex the task was.  It was also a flat fee so if we ran into overtime we would not go back at the customer for more money.  If it was less we kept the hours on the books and used it for on-site support or instruction.  we did not have a separate fee for data migration, it was factored into the total cost based on how many files needed to be migrated and our past experience with moving data we would know pretty much  how long it would take.

Regards,
Jon

Thanks Jon,
The approach the VAR you worked for seems reasonable. I am skeptical about so much more these days and was suspicious that the VARs had migration tools to convert the data and that the charges to the customer was all "gravy" for the VAR. The first time I looked into ePDM was a couple of years ago and my VAR was asking for $70K for implementation charges. I just laughed. I'm re-visiting switching over to ePDM and am hoping the cost is reasonable. Again, I was just reaching out to others for a comparison.

For that price I would expect a full implementation including planning, complete vault development and setup, installation, rollout, data migration, debugging, and a good amount of on-site support.. of course i dont know how big your company is.. but sounds large for that price?

Regards,
Jon
