capacity for aluminum "breakaway" clips?

capacity for aluminum "breakaway" clips?

capacity for aluminum "breakaway" clips?

(OP)
Has anyone been able to get an out of plane capacity for the aluminum breakaway clips used for a fire rated shaftwall assembly?  The clip is intended on holding the wall in place in case either side of a building structure burns away and leaves the clip on the protected side in place.  In this scenario, you would need to check the system for a temporary wind exposure.  Both USG and Dietrich offer this clip and so far I have been stonewalled as far as getting a capacity from either.  Perhaps the screw connections themselves would be the controlling factor in lieu of failure at the clip itself, but I was curious if anyone else had looked into this.

If you check out the ICC ES-Report 92-19 you will see the Dietrich is only rated for the 5 psf interior wind load. Attached is a link to the ICC website. I am pretty sure the USG clip is the same. The intent IMHO is for protection during the fire, with the remaining building to be repaired ASAP.

As EOR's we should take the responsibility to design our structures to support the components we allow in our design per that industry standards.

Would there be some precedent to check the wall for a temporary wind exposure?  IE someone doesn't realize the wall needs to be braced for a week or 2 after the fire?

RE: capacity for aluminum "breakaway" clips?

I would think that the fire or building department would require the owner to address possible structural problems that resulted from such a fire ASAP.
