Importing a drawing border

Importing a drawing border

Importing a drawing border

(OP)
Dear Folks;

I have a "B" size 11 x 17 drawing border available in AutoCad 14 dwg and dxf format. My drawing border is full size and not scaled in any way. I want to import it into solidworks 2001 and use it as a drawing template (.drwdot format). So far using the import wizard I have been unsuccessful. Most of the time the drwdot file is created with the border off to one side and scaled down not fitting the shadow box that represents the paper limits. Could somebody walk me through this so I can end up with a fully functional template file.

Many Thanks

Adrian D.

RE: Importing a drawing border

Adrian,

Using the import wizard, the thing to be mindful of is the paper size setting (under "output file properties").  You want to be certain that your paper size setting matches your border (e.g. 11x17 for B-Size).  It's possible that the import worked fine and you just missed this setting.  Also be sure to import the DXF data onto the "sheet format" and not the sheet.

I just went through this to be certain I wasn't giving you bum advice and it worked just fine.  If you're still having problems maybe you can email the DXF border and I can take a shot at it for you.
