Welding Spacing in Pipe Spool

Welding Spacing in Pipe Spool

(OP)
Dear gentlemen

I need to make a pipe spool with an 24" X 20mm SA-335 GR. P91 and two welding.
I need to know the minimum spacing for the welds, so as to make the spool as small as possible.

Thank you very much for help me again.

I'm apologize for my English is not perfect.

Kind regards

Magalhães Julio

RE: Welding Spacing in Pipe Spool

If you use the "Search" window on this web site and others (www.pipingdesigners.com) you will find lots of postings with many different versions of the "Right answer".

Search on: "Pup", "Pup Piece", "Spool Piece", "Minimum distance between welds", etc

The best answer for you will be the one that meets your need "AND" meets the piping code that applies to your project along with satisfying your Client and Inspector.

The answers you will find will range from:
a. 4 times the wall thickness of the pipe being welded (*)
to
b. 1 pipe diameter

(*) Your material being P91 will no doubt require PWHT (Post Weld Heat Treatment).  If so, the welds will be normalized so any overlapping or impingement on the HAZ (Heat Affected Zone) of an individual weld will not be an issue.

I hope this helps you.
