MDMT and impact test temperature

MDMT and impact test temperature

(OP)
Hi everyone,

We'll manufacture pressure vessel using SA516 Gr 60N as per ASME VIII Div 1 with requested MDMT = -40°F.
According to UCS66, impact tests are required as per UG84.
My question is, the impact test required by UCS 66 shall be done at -40°F (MDMT) or as per temperature required by ASME II SA20 for SA516Gr60N (-60°F)??

Thank by advance for your help.

regards

RE: MDMT and impact test temperature

Per UG 84, test at the MDMT or colder.  See UG 84(b)

Also, see table UG-84.4.

Thank weldtek.

I'm look into in UG84(b)(2)and, if I understand correctly, it's able to perform impact test at warmer temperature than MDMT according to table UG84-4 Right ?
It means, for SA516Gr60N, it'll be able to perform impact test required by UCS66 at -30°F (-34°C) because yield strength for SA516Gr60N is lower than 40KSI (32KSI).

Is my understanding correct ?

Thank for your assistance

From a Code standpoint, yes.
