Overhead 22kV Power lines

Overhead 22kV Power lines

Overhead 22kV Power lines

(OP)
I am designing a 22kV overhead line (Bear conductor horizontal configuration) using  wooden H poles structures
Question: what is the norm for spacing of strain poles ie  suspension poles are at eighty metre spans is it every 5 spans for a strain pole please advised.

RE: Overhead 22kV Power lines

It depends on the specification. Some specs call for failure containment every 5 or six spans. Things like weather conditions, wind/ice loading, topography, height above sea level, length of conductor available all come into play. You shouldn't need to design an overhead line from scratch these days. Just "borrow" a spec from one of the many utilities who put the information on their websites. I can recommend a good book- Wood Pole Overhead Lines by Brian Wareing, ISBN 0863413560.

RE: Overhead 22kV Power lines

What Marmite said. Also, consider dead-ending conductor runs at locations (road crossings, etc) where your code would require a higher grade of construction for such a crossing. Select dead end locations for the convenience of setting up the conductor pulling equipment. And, if possible, find out what sort of handling equipment your contractors have and what size spools they can handle. Its possible to make longer runs by splicing, but if you can keep the total length down below their optimum spool size, it makes the installation easier and neater.
