Meaning what?

At what low temperature will it crack? I am trying to certify an oxygen pipeline. I have a low temp protection set to cut of the oxygen flow at -20f. The pipe is copper so I am wondering if -20f is suitable?

RE:Btrueblood, from your link, Copper and copper alloys retain a high degree of ductility and toughness at subzero temperatures. In fact, copper alloys become stronger and more ductile as the temperature goes down, retaining excellent impact resistance to 20 K (-253 C or -424 F).

So does that mean copper is good to -424f?

RE: what is the low temperature rating of copper pipe?

tlsa98, ASME Sec VIII, Div 1, Part UNF concerning non-ferrous materials exempts Cu alloys from impact testing to -325 F.

You should be OK at -20 F.

Mike

Thank you all!!!

tlsa98, I might have added, if you are working to some Code or standard, you may find guidance there.

Mike
