Please see the attached image. I made an extrude cut of a triangle on a diagonal of the cube. Can I make the same geometry with a chamfer or some other way that doesn't involve creating a new plane?

Yes, just pick the corner node and apply your chamfer.

I figured as much. I didn't realize you had to select the Vertex radio button. Thanks!
