Allowable Stress, Fsu
Allowable Stress, Fsu
(OP)
I'm looking for the shear stress for Grade 1 titanium
Mil-handbook 5 does not give this value but does give tensile stress allowable, 35 ksi and I know the poisson's ratio, .37
Is it possible to calculate Fsu or is there somewhere else I can find this value.

RE: Allowable Stress, Fsu
But if you want to use a first order calculation, you can use the Von Mises failure criterion, which states that Fsy=.577Fty, where .577 = sqrt(3)/3. You could then extrapolate that to an ultimate strength. This relationship holds well for some materials, but not others.
