Most of our overhead distribution system is either 15 kV or 35 kV.  Where we have a fair amount of tree exposure, tree wire is not very effective or durable.

Someone suggested trying aerial cable in heavily treed areas.  We have never used aerial cable.  It looks a lot heavier than an overhead bare wire circuit and probably has to be supported more frequently as is done with spacer cable.

If there are any users of aerial cable out there, could you chime in as to whether your experience with it is good or bad, or what criteria you apply when you can use it?

The main conductor size of interest is 1/0 aluminum.
