Solidworks HUL setup

Solidworks HUL setup

Solidworks HUL setup

(OP)
First let me say hello! New to the site but it looks very informative and excited to be a part of it.

Now to my question, I use Solidworks at work and I am going to start taking advantage of the HUL, but I have not found a good install guide.

My main question is when I install solidworks do I leave the port@server to the default that it shows for my home pc or do I put my work port@server in from my work SNL (solidnetwork license) so that I can borrow the license?

Jake

RE: Solidworks HUL setup

Do you have an HUL serial number or an SNL serial number?  The HUL serial number is different then the SNL.  The HUL is a stand alone seat that does not need to access the license server.

9000 leading number are HUL/stand alone
0010 leading are SNL serial numbers

So not being an IT guy lets see if I understand this. When I borrow solidworks I have to jump on the VPN to get the license to work, I was thinking the license was posted to a solidworks server and could be accesed via internet but the VPN makes sense.

So then when I install it at home solidworks asks for a port location does that matter? Or do I just install with default port location and then set up the VPN and share the license?

RE: Solidworks HUL setup

Since your SolidWorks install is asking for the location of the license server you have an SNL serial number.

You need VPN access to your server at work to connect to the license server.

You can either stay connected to the VPN and the license server for your SolidWorks session.  Or borrow a license for a certain timeframe and disconnect from the VPN.

You will need to talk to your IT people to arrange that.

Thanks for the help!

RE: Solidworks HUL setup

You also get one HUL for each seat of SW.  This is a stand-alone license that you can install on your home computer.  Talk to your VAR for the S#.

RE: Solidworks HUL setup

If your company didn't use a SNL or Network Serial Number you could use your 9000 #### #### Serial number to install a second license for home machine. Network licenses typically starting 0010
0010 #### #### #### A1B2 C3D4

Require you to login to your server as Anna said.

If you have a laptop you can borrow a license from the server for upto 30 days and wouldn't have to login each day to get the license. For periods longer than 30 days SolidWorks can be borrowed for longer by special request of your VAR but very rarely happens.

Michael

I'd suggest using the HUL that Dan mentions above so call your VAR and see if you can get those special Serial Numbers for your company.

Thanks guys, I'm going to try and get the HUL number today. You have all been a big help.

RE: Solidworks HUL setup

Be aware that your HUL will not have all of the bells and whistles.  I think the HUL only extends to SW Standard (no routing, etc.)

RE: Solidworks HUL setup

It depends what flavors of SolidWorks you have for your SNL license.  The HUL will be for the lowest level of SolidWorks you have under the SNL license.

We have 6 seats of core SolidWorks and one seat of Premium SolidWorks under an SNL license.  Our HUL licenses are for core SolidWorks.

If all your SNL seats are Premium seats then your HUL will be for SolidWorks Premium.
