Catch Latch

Catch Latch

Catch Latch

(OP)
I am designing a rotating box which has a flat area and pivots on the top and bottom that aloow for the rotation and also leave the spacing for clearance above and belwo the box to the main frame.

One thing we have been trying to incorporate is a catch latch which will allow the end user to rotate the box 180 degrees and locate itself in with the latch. the box needs to be able to rotate in both directions and has built in stops to proevent it to be fully rotated.

The cathc latches work ok, but don't give a very positive catch to the unit once rotated. The ideal solid catch I am looking for is one where normally you have a pull latch that engages and then needs to be pulled to disengage.

I don't the the ability to allow for a pull latch to be used here.

The ball catch is lacking that positive lock because of it's half round ball which sprngs in and out easily-even though we tried a stronger spring in it.

Any other suggestions on how to tackle this?

Hi MECH8T4

Might I suggest you post a drawing of you're component as a picture seaks a 1000 words.

See atthached photos of the prot unit we have made.

The catch is punted in the box and we have machined a nylon catch surface which is mounted on the frame. We have a catch and nylon ramp on both sides of the box which is about 24 inches wide.

It works, but is not a positive enough lock as would be with a pull latch.

I have uploaded some photos, but not sure I have done so correctly.
