Thickening a Surface
Thickening a Surface
(OP)
I have a surface that has been created using curves and changing the isoparm areas within the surface. Now it has become a polysurface (?), does anyone know how I can add a thickness to the surface area, e.g. a depth. I only want to make it about 1mm thick but offset obviously just gives me a hollow frame and the extrude feature in curve and surface doesn't seem to have any effect either. A little help would be appreciated!

RE: Thickening a Surface
As a rule of thumb, in rhino a shell which is =0 in thickness is a surface and a shell which is >0 in thickness is a solid. So to ad a thickness to the surface means, to build up a solid that two faces are parametrically identical or better to say equivelent. With the simple surfaces extruding the surfece in direction of surface normals ( in rhino they are called UV directions) works fine. But I think that best to do is to offset the surface to the proper side and build up a solid out of them. Normally offset measures the distance in the UV direction. Also you need to be very carefull when offsetting the polysurfaces, if the surfaces of a polysurface are not fit each other in isoparm continuity then offset surface can be irregular. best way to resolve this issue is to merge the surfaces to obtain a pollysurface.
I hope this helps you to get what you are looking for
