Defining Arbitrary Beam in Patran

Defining Arbitrary Beam in Patran

Defining Arbitrary Beam in Patran

(OP)
Hi there,

I have system panel crossection as attached. My purpose is modelling it via using CBEAM elements in patran but looks like it's not possible to define this kind of section by using Arbitrary Section tool. When it see a double point (to create vertical legs I need to use some nodes two times) it gives an error message.

I wonder am I doing something wrong or there is no way to model it via using this tool? If not I'll try to define by using Ixx, Iyy, Ixy, J values without section

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

RE: Defining Arbitrary Beam in Patran

The "Arbitrary Selection Tool" appears to use the PBARL bulk data entry but is restricted to the following types of sections as referenced in the quick reference guide, Character: "ROD",
"TUBE", "TUBE2", "I", "CHAN", "T", "BOX", "BAR", "CROSS", "H", "T1",
"I1", "CHAN1", "Z", "CHAN2", "T2", "BOX1", "HEXA", "HAT", "HAT1",
"DBOX" for GROUP="MSCBML0". Unfortunately it does not allow you to create a section like the one you would like.

I think you may want to use the PBAR bulk data entry since it allows you to simply enter Ix, Iyy, Ixy, but I am not entirely sure.If you look inside the .bdf or .dat file, the lines associated with PBARL may need to be replaced with appropriate PBAR lines.

You can find more information in Quick Reference Guide or you can refer to http://forums.mscsoftware.com/nastran for some more assistance.
