I have noticed this in Abaqus "Follow underlying material?", but not sure what sure what "Underlying material" means?

Does this simply mean the material below the surface?

Any suggestions? Thanks

RE: Underlying material

Should say "material below"  in my humble opinion

RE: Underlying material

Are you sure this isn't referring to the laminate 'layers' of a composite structure?

To an Engineer, the glass is twice as big as it needs to be.

In the ABAQUS manual it does not refer specifically to composites.

RE: Underlying material

Great example of multiple meanings...
Maybe the phrase refers to either material "referenced in an article "(i.e. in the footnotes), or the "related body of knowledge" (everything that is commonly known on the subject).  Or, more likely, Mike is on the right track.

I also agree it should say "material below", thanks everyone.
