(OP)

Hi everybody,

I have a Ultrasonic LT with EEx d(ia) approval.
I think it means that the enclosure and the housing is EX d but the electronics is Ex ia.
Can you tell me what will happen if I connect it to a non-IS power supply?

I think nothing will happen and the only difference is I cannot open the housing in EX zone when the device is powered up by non-IS but if the power was IS I would be able to open the housing everywhere and anytime.
I need your kind opinions.

Thanks
Mohsen

RE: EX d(ia)

It's best to ask this question of the manufacturer.  If you give us a copy of the product's data sheet plus the intrinsic safety drawings, we might be able to offer an opinion.

Often, intrinsically safe components are specified to be within explosionproof enclosures to satisfy insurance company requirements.  In this case, you must include a barrier or the intrinsic safety rating of the electronics is violated.

Good on ya,

Goober Dave
