ARV installed above grade

(OP)
Will there be any O&M issues if air, or, vaccum release valves are installed above grade in cold climates (Eg. Canada)? Application could be water or sewage.

RE: ARV installed above grade

Water freezing anywhere inside the valve where it could block opening of course would be problematic, as well as snow or ice blocking the inlet, or inlet duct.

RE: ARV installed above grade

YUP - and I have seen some horrific (not deadly) damage done by freezing water in Canada.....Literally exploded water filled pipes that weren't supposed to have water in them!!

RE: ARV installed above grade

Apart from the freezing issue raised by my colleagues it depends how high aboveground you put it if you need an access platform.

The thing is likely to freeze just as easily in a pit.

Do you need an air valve? There are plenty of sewage/water lines without air valves.
