Pressure Vessel FEA analysis with STAAD

Pressure Vessel FEA analysis with STAAD

(OP)
Problem description: I am trying to check the local stresses at the supports of a round pressure vesell (120" diameter 5/8" thick)full of diesel using FEA with STAAD.

Question: Any tips on how to apply the weight of the fluid on the elements?

Note: If we apply the hydrostatic pressure which varies from maximum at the bottom elements to zeroe on the top elements the net reactions add up to exactly what the weight of the water is. Does anybody see a problem with this approach? Is this what really happens? Any tips?

Someone on another forum recommended the use a load combination that multiply the Selfweight of the elements with a factor (Weight of Fluid/Selfweight of tank)but that cannot be correct because the top elements see very little weight as compared to the bottom.

Thanks in advance
