was - interchangeability of pipe couplings - now OGS vs AGS

was - interchangeability of pipe couplings - now OGS vs AGS

(OP)
It appears victaulic has introduced AGS (Advanced Groove System) as standard on pipes over 14 inch.

The Victaulic website is cranky and slow this morning.

In the Vic 2011 price list and on the sites I can reach there are statements like this about pipe 14 inch and larger --
Advance Groove System (AGS) products must not be used to join original groove system (OGS) products.
http://www.hydroflow.co.nz/Fire/Victaulic_Industrial_Fittings_AGS_W13

I have not found the groove machining details yet, but this makes it sound like -
1 -  we better be very careful about specifying replacement in kind couplings as OGS.
2 - for plant continuity, starting to use AGS will require stocking double inventories

I'm still waiting to hear if gaskets are 100% interchangeable between OGS and AGS.

RE: was - interchangeability of pipe couplings - now OGS vs AGS

Hi Tmoose. I work for Victaulic and wanted to offer my assistance. Sorry to hear about your experience with the website, I hope it is working better for you.

Victaulic promotes the AGS products for pipe sizes 14 inch and larger for new systems and continues to support and supply the OGS products for customers that have existing systems. Couplings and gaskets are not interchangeable between the AGS products and the OGS products and there is a difference in the dimensional and physical characteristics of the grooves. AGS products are differentiated with a "W" in front of the Style number. Style W07 is AGS product, but Style 07 is OGS product.

Please see submittal 25.01 on our website for OGS groove dimensions and 25.09 for AGS groove dimensions.

For additional information regarding these products, please contact our office and ask to speak with Engineering Services.
