Floating-Y Connected versus Grounded-Y Connected Transformer

Floating-Y Connected versus Grounded-Y Connected Transformer

(OP)
What are the benefits of connecting a transformer with a floating-Y or a grounded-Y? What applications are most common for each connection? What are the advantages or disadvantages of each type of connection? What is likely to happen if you don't have that return path to a grounded Y-connected source?
